LiveEnglish - Travel and Teach English in Korea. Documents: Employment Contract

You’ve received an offer and accepted it—congratulations!

The school will send LiveEnglish two copies of the contract to forward to you to sign and return as part of the visa application process. LiveEnglish will help you understand the terms of the contract in full and answer any questions you have before signing.

The terms of a contract vary depending on the school and your qualifications, but a basic contract for foreign English teachers in Korea includes the following:

  • Monthly salary of 2.0 million won
  • On average 30 hours of work per week
  • Severance pay equivalent to one month’s salary after one year of work
  • Round-trip airfare, either pre-paid or reimbursed
  • Free or subsidized accommodation
  • Half of national health insurance payment
  • National pension payment, returned to you upon departing Korea
  • Paid national holidays off (approximately 14 days)
  • Unpaid sick days and emergency leave

Again, the terms above illustrate the most basic of contracts to give you an idea of what can be expected. While benefits such as severance pay, health insurance, and pension are fixed, most others are open to negotiation and vary depending on your work experience and educational background. LiveEnglish will negotiate on your behalf to help you earn what you believe you deserve.
